Une réflexion aux confins de l’art et de la science
Il s’agit d’un ensemble de quatre panneaux formant une pièce ouverte, comme deux livres ouverts face-à-face.

64 tableaux forment 4 panneaux de 16 peintures assemblées, évoquant le système de classification à la base de tout système scientifique. Ils symbolisent ce que l’on discerne tant dans le microscope que dans la lunette astronomique : de la cellule aux planètes. Chacun peut les appréhender de façon unique avec les outils de sa sensibilité et de ses connaissances. Certains les regardent dans leur ensemble avec leurs interactions mutuelles, d’autres s’attachent à regarder un élément à la fois. Un musicien peut l’analyser comme une partition, composition mélodique, rythmes, espaces de silence ; un navigateur en tracés, courants, force du vent ; un architecte comme lignes de forces, espace, volume ; un pilote d’avion peut imaginer des routes aériennes, flux, isobarres ; un biologiste l’ADN et ses 64 nucléotides, un astrophysicien le mouvement cosmique, un danseur une chorégraphie, un bouddhiste des mandalas… Ces peintures font écho aux 64 hexagrammes du Yi king, le livre chinois des mutations et des quatre éléments : eau, terre, air et feu.

The pictures
These 64 boards
are divided into four panels, which form an open room allowing free
wandering. The panels are arranged as two open books facing each other.
They evoke the classification system underlying any scientific system.
Each panel (240 cm by 240 cm) is made of sixteen paintings (60 cm by 60
cm) representing a coloured circle which shows what we can observe both
with a microscope and a telescope, that is : from cells to planets. It
is a global vision which recalls cosmic movement, gravitational force,
as well as the human genome, the reversed spiral of the DNA, the double
propeller of 64 nucleotides, the conception of the ovule, the embryo,
the movement of life. This series of 64 paintings echoes Yi king, the
Chinese book of mutations; the four elements: water, earth, air, fire.
These are paintings which each visitor can perceive in his own way
depending on his feelings and knowledge. Some people will look at them
as a group with various interactions, others will detail the elements in
order to see each one more precisely : « It’s true that we come to
every experience with our own limitations and see only that for which we
are prepared » Isamo Noguchi
A musician could analyse it as a musical score, with a melodic composition, a rhythm and intervals of silence; a sailor as plans, currents, strength of the wind; an architect as lines of strength, spaces, volume; an airline pilot could imagine airways, isobarres; a biologist, a part of the movement of the DNA; an astrophysicist could see the cosmic movement; a dancer a choreography; a Buddhist, some mandalas… Some people will see planets, embryo, the map of the migrations, flows, sea currents, hurricanes, Earth seen from space… It is a liquid painting which dashes into a fluid movement as a living material carried by the gesture of the brush: freeze-frame, the force of hanging movement between the inside of the body and the outside of planet Earth. All these paintings are a hymn to life in its primordial movements, constant fluidity, perpetual change.

Une musique linéaire évolue d’un son à l’autre provoquant un état un peu hypnotique et méditatif. Elle se compose du chant des baleines, de la voix humaine, du rythme des battements du coeur et de la musique des étoiles. Le son des étoiles ou pulsars a été enregistré récemment par le radio téléscope COROT. Il permet de mesurer les ondes acoustiques ou gravitationnelles émises par les étoiles. Il en trace le spectre en recalant les fréquences dans la zone où notre oreille est sensible. Le son passe donc des profondeurs de l’océan aux profondeurs du ciel, à travers le filtre de notre corps grâce auquel nous percevons le monde.

It consists of sequences inspired by the recording of whales’ singing, the human voice, the rhythm of the heartbeat and the music of stars.The sound of stars recorded by COROT radiotelescope enables us to measure the acoustic or gravitational waves emitted by the stars and to draw their diagram by adapting the frequencies to the sensitive zone of our hearing. The sound comes from deep in the ocean to the depths of heaven, through the filter of our body through which we perceive the world.

Au verso des panneaux est fixée une bâche sur laquelle sont imprimés des mots et des concepts. Ces écritures, ces symboles scientifiques, philosophiques et artistiques proviennent des codes de l’abstraction développés des plus anciennes civilisations jusqu’à nos jours. Ils symbolisent la circulation et le partage des connaissances grâce aux publications et travaux des savants du monde entier. Ils évoquent le processus de création, fait d’intuition et de juxtaposition de plusieurs techniques et savoirs.
